Ended up a emotional day for me at the end of a really long weekend of coaching and competing at the Kent international a couple of weeks ago and realised I didnโ€™t post anything...but another consistent performance reaching the final but beaten by a much physically stronger opponent who then went on to also win the Seniors so silver for me. I won my pool and 3 contests all quickly and efficiently by ippon so canโ€™t complain ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธโ˜บ๏ธ #judo #judoka #sensei #walkthetalk #hjc4life #ippon #continuousimprovement #martialarts #kaizen #mvp

Good afternoon Hackney JC

Congratulations to all Hackney players who competed yesterday at the London youth games 2019 at Lea valley athletics centre.
You all put in a fantastic effort in pursuit of capturing the LYG title for the 4th consecutive year however this time itโ€™s a solid 2nd place out of 32 competing boroughs was a fair result considering the injuries and drop outs from many of your teammates. There were some outstanding performances from several members including boys player of the day Reginald and Girls player of the day Ruby both winning gold in their respected groups with some brilliant judo and dynamic throwing on both sides. We are extremely proud of you all. Other great performances included Zoe Bazzoni who improved on her bronze from last year to get to the final and finish with a silver medal this year. Another was from Lukas Persson who also won gold with some great judo.

Frustrating losing by a small margin this occasion of only 11 points to a larger squad but this was predicted. Disappointing to see so many of you not compete and lower our teams final score but as mentioned in the week we win as a team and lose as a team and hopefully learn as a team to.

Massive well done to our team of referees and officials who received good feedback on their refereeing especially most of these also went on to compete with some winning gold such as Ruby and Abderrahaim after strong performances helping to run this amazing event.

Overall I was so impressed with clubs dynamic throwing for ippon and use of action reaction utilising combinations. Already looking forward to returning next year to hopefully to regain to title.

Some really nice judo on show over the weekend at the London Open 2019 across the 2 days which always delivers showcasing some of the finest judo players from miniors through to Masters from here and abroad including commonwealth champions and Olympians.
We only had a relatively small entry so 7 solid medals at this event from our squad was a good result and pleased to say most of you put in a strong work rate and did yourselves proud including Zeynep who did her first level 4 open ranking event just missing out on a medal but showing improvements taking onboard crucial technical details since last weekend to win a rematch after losing to the same opponent last weekend. Jamila who after a long break returned to competing at this level taking a gold in Seniors and a bronze in juniors.
Well done to our clubs team of officials for doing another great job over the weekend. Proud of you all!

Remember what you put in is what you get out so letโ€™s make sure we keep pushing ourselves out outside of our comfort zones making steady improvement and moving closer towards our goals.

Still light for u73โ€™s but 2 groups last weekend at the Jamie MacDonald Memorial event in Cardiff Wales last Saturday. First time Iโ€™ve taken part in this event. Bronze in the Seniors after losing to the gold medalist but coming back through the group to medal was a good performance. I then took Gold in the Masters. 7 contests total with 6 wins by ippon all inside the first minute. Always a bit of pressure when youโ€™re students are watching you compete but as I tell them all the time you win or you learn. Good morning Hackney JC

Last weekend was another busy competition weekend for us starting with the Jamie MacDonald memorial charity event in Cardiff wales. Our team included our Head coach @sensei_calvatron who did a double entry competing in. Both seniors and masters categories at menโ€™s u73kg where he had 7 contests taking a bronze and gold respectively. Most groups for us ended up being a good mix of players we both did know and some unfamiliar ones to. The event is for a good cause and I hope we will be back next year with a few more players. Well done to all who turned out. Unfortunately Ruby suffered a broken shoulder after fighting a girl in the heavier weight category. We wish her a speedy recovery.
On Sunday we attended the 61 judo green belt an below event at High Wycombe with a small team including. James, Zoe, Abderraouf and Abderrahim. Lil Abs did a good judo winning his pool in the u46kg group with boys much bigger than himself and taking a well earned bronze medal. Zoe also won her pool but lost out in semi final after a great effort in her final contest. Jameโ€™s group really suited him this week and he pulled off a really good left ippon seoi nage to secure his bronze medal. Last but not least Big Abs was sharp at u50kg with dynamic throwing for ippon all the way to the gold medal in style. Also excellent work from Rafal who refereed on both Saturday and Sunday and to Michaela who officiated on Sunday both doing great jobs!

Weekend before last Zoe gave us a great lesson on how to use renraku waza Seoi-Nage in combination with Ko-Uchi-Gake using action reaction. This weekend she shows us how to mix it up and use the reaction to throw on the outside for ippon with great effect using O-Soto-Gari. Well done Zoe some excellent judo very expressive over the last few weeks especially. Keep it up!

Itโ€™s been a long 23 years since I changed judo associations so returning last weekend to compete in the BJC Open National Championships in Kettering i was a bit more nervous than usual added to that I had some of my students from @hackneyjudoclub also competing and excited to see me compete some for the first time. End of the day itโ€™s still judo but with a unfamiliar feel to my usual events. Different doesnโ€™t always mean worse and I liked some elements of the event including the best part which was good opponents who were all respectful humble and skilled.

After giving it some time to reflect on my performance Iโ€™m happy with my 2nd place silver medal as I know I have a lot more gears I wasnโ€™t able to hit due to lack of real preparation due to coaching commitments and weighing only 68kg giving away 5kg in the u73kg category. I scored with some nice techniques standing on the ground which was pleasing. The final was so close it was awarded to my opponent by referees decision (Yushei gachi) after no scores at end of contest. But Iโ€™m feeling confident that with some strength & conditioning work on my baby arms Itโ€™ll make the difference. Well done to all of the Hackney JC players who took part and all the competitors who took part from around the country and further abroad to!

Good evening Hackney JC

Yesterday a few of our young club members decided to take part in the BJC Open Championships for the very first time. Our team showed great effort with 8 of our 11 competitors in gold medal contests and showed show fantastic judo. Our clubs energy and team spirit was second to none! Iโ€™m glad to say 4 of our members won gold becoming BJC Open National champions including Abderraouf (Little Abs), Zeynep and Mohamed. Rather unfortunately 3 of our clubs finalists lost on very dubious referees decisions at the end of normal time with no scores on the board (Yushei gachi) at times with only 1 referee making the decision with what seemed no objectivity when refereeing their own regular circuit players.
Next stop Jamie McDonald memorial Championships in wales and the 61 judo club green belt and below at high Wycombe.

Special well done to George and Rafal who both passed both practical and written exams for their area refereeing awards. While others worked hard on the pool sheets and time keeping working towards their competition recorders qualification. So proud of you all keep up the good work and keep training hard itโ€™s going to be a busy May! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well done to all who competed in the @moberlystarsjudo green belt and below competition last Saturday. There was some really expensive moments from your judo keep working hard as in seeing more and more confidence to try new techniques outside your usual comfort zones both standing and on the ground. Massive well done to Michaela and Julio for working so well officiating at the event. It was a very long day but you did really well and are really gaining in experience and knowledge very fast.

Respect to those who understand that everything in life isnโ€™t meant to be easy and for that reason those who start the journey with you may not finish with you. If you want something youโ€™ve never had before you better make sure you got a strong mind an a even stronger heart coz it might half kill you mentally and physically because sometimes the things that come easily just ainโ€™t worth having. Itโ€™s easy to take whatโ€™s given to you... but try working for and taking what you really want. I challenge you.
