We are feeling the new #squishbeauty campaign! The vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand, founded by model, author and anti body-shaming activist #charlihoward, was created to focus on embracing ‘flaws’ instead of hiding them. Per #dazedbeauty, Charli wants to normalise the fact that nobody has totally flawless skin. By casting models with diverse skin types (including models with acne), she hopes we can all become more confident about our appearance. The models range from size 0 to size 20, and 4”11 to 6”2 in height—all bodies are un-retouched, raw and real. We’d like to see more beauty campaigns like this! #laundrites, what about you?💄 [Photo credit: @Squish.Beauty]
Hey, #laundrites, hey!👋🏾 Yesterday you called us out on the #EstéeLaundry shirt designs we uploaded on Society6 because of the lack of diversity in sizing and models, and you guys were totally right—we’re sorry! We jumped the gun on launching the shirts because we were really excited about finding a platform to create custom merch with an ethical, sustainable company and without incurring any upfront costs. As you may know, we don’t accept advertising, freebies or sponsorships, and this seemed like a great way to create merch without spending money we don’t have. . We have decided to stop the production of these t-shirts until we find a platform that celebrates the diversity of our following. We have, however, created makeup bags/pouches, fanny packs and stickers for you to get your EL on. Thanks for setting us straight—we love y’all! ❤️ (Please note that we’ve removed the shirt listings from the site but the site takes some time to update.)
#LadyGaga’s long-awaited cosmetics line, #hauslaboratories, is finally here. The makeup line is launching lip glosses, lip colors, and all-over color pigments and has signed an exclusive with #Amazon. Pre-orders start on 7.15 but Amazon plans to launch #HausLabs simultaneously in 9 countries in September—to include the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany and Japan. . @LadyGaga says in the new Haus Labs promo video, "The last thing the world needs is another beauty brand. But that's too bad. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But at Haus Laboratories, we say beauty is how you see yourself." . #laundrites, how do you guys feel about @HausLabs? And it only being available on Amazon?
“She is immense, gargantuan, vast. She heaves with fat.” These sentences are almost beautiful. It’s too bad they are being used to assassinate the character of a whole population of women by a woman whose cruelty is more gargantuan than could ever be sufficiently stated. #Repost @esteelaundry ・・・ In a vile article clearly meant to provoke, #thetelegraph is claiming that the new plus-size #Nike mannequins are selling women a dangerous lie by promoting obesity. 😡 Thoughts, #laundrites?
Y’all ready for some feels? #Gillette just released a powerful new ad as a follow up to their ‘toxic masculinity’ Super Bowl ad. The latest video shows Toronto-based artist and #Trans activist, #samsonbonkeabantubrown, shaving for the first time as his proud father walks him through the rite of passage. #laundrites, we are here for this. Transparency Tuesday🤔 • • • • • • #laundrites, what are y’alls thoughts on #kylieskin? #eldiscussionfridays: 1️⃣It’s unrealistic to expect #beautyinfluencers and reporters to have the resources to buy all the products they review, but what can they do to make sure they are taking into account the price when raving about a product? 2️⃣ While #presstrips are a great way for brands to get influencers and reporters to talk about a product, when do they verge on bribery? How can brands, influencers and reporters do better? #laundrites, discuss! #beautyblogger #beautyreview
Skincare/cosmetics fridges are all the rage right now. But does refrigerating your beauty products yield any benefits besides keeping them cool and fresh? Or is it all hype? The main argument for using a cosmetics fridge is #coldtherapy aka #cryotherapy. In cold therapy, when the cold is applied, it controls blood flow to significantly reduce inflammation and swelling. #laundrites, thoughts?🥶 #doitforthegram #somuchplasticwaste [📷 Credit: the brands tagged]
A year ago, a small, passionate collective decided to create Estée Laundry to focus on promoting equality, transparency, honesty and sustainability in the beauty industry. It was a small idea, but we were 100% sure we wanted to be: 1️⃣ independent (absolutely no ads or sponsored content), and 2️⃣ fight the good fight. . One year on, we’ve grown beyond our wildest dreams, created a lot of frenemies, and become the go-to page for beauty industry commentary. All this wouldn’t have possible without you, our strong, vocal and passionate community of #laundrites! Thank you! . To help us grow bigger while still remaining ad/sponcon-free and neutral, we have created a #Patreon page, where you can become a patron (we love how grand and old school this sounds) and support us. Every bit helps, and no contribution is too small. Head to the link in bio to become an Estée Laundry patron and show your support. xoxo EL
The digital publication, @Pudding.Cool, conducted a project on how women of all shades are represented on #Vogue covers. The results of the project are truly eye-opening. #laundrites, take a look at the results. What are your thoughts on this? How can fashion magazines, like @Vogue, do a better job representing women of all shades going forward? [ #PuddingCool’s full analysis linked in our Instagram Story.] #Colorism

#laundrites, judging by all the DMs we received for our Instagram Story, it is clear that there is a lack of diversity in the beauty, fashion and influencer space in Australia (while the focus of the post was on Australia, it’s a problem worldwide). What steps should brands take to do better (in a genuine, authentic way and not just in a tokenistic manner to fill a diversity quota)? #diversitymatters #representationmatters 🌈 PS: Although our focus has been on racial diversity, it applies to other areas too. Apparently, you can’t really be an influencer in Australia unless you don’t blonde, tanned, skinny beach vibe. 🤦🏿♀️
Consumers are threatening to boycott the French beauty store, #Nocibé, after #alainbizeul, Nocibé’s marketing director tweeted #racist remarks to French comedian #yassinebelattar. . Nocibé tweeted a response on Thursday stating that Bizeul “has taken private positions on Twitter” and that “his words are in total contradiction of their values.” . #laundrites, is this apology enough? Following social media backlash, Bizeul has been suspended (but not fired) from the brand. Can we disconnect the views of brand executives from the brands that they work for? . #frenchbeauty #nocibefrance #Nocibe #boycottnocibe
Following news that New York City would ban discrimination based on hair, the luxury Upper East Side #sharondorramcolor at #sallyhershberger salon is under investigation for racial discrimination. Former employees said this week that they were told by management that Afros and box-braided hairstyles did not reflect the upscale image of the neighborhood, #newyorktimes reports. “The salon’s dress code was “protocol,” Ms. Dorram said. “It’s what clients will expect.” 😡 The #NYT claims that between 2016 and 2018, four complaints were filed to New York City’s human rights commission about the management and one senior stylist at this salon. #laundrites, can we say #cancelled?🤦🏾♀️
#Gucci, in the wake of its messy “blackface” drama, has issued a new "updated security protocol" handbook to all staff members. According to #TMZ, in a letter sent to Gucci staffers by CEO #marcobizzarri, the fashion mogul claimed ignorance, writing that he was unaware of “the history and significance of blackface.” Bizzarri promised to ensure “any product that is, or may be perceived as, culturally insensitive does not get to the production stage” by hiring five new designers from across the globe. #laundrites, do you think it’s a good strategy?

#drunkelephant is back, spreading false, irresponsible, unscientific skincare advice. When commenters pointed out to founder @TiffanyMasterson that not all skin conditions need to be treated the same way (as she was advising), she fought back saying they were being rude and abusive, and deleted their comments. She claimed that her skincare advice was based on her “OPINION,” “philosophy” and “beliefs,” not “facts and science.” #laundrites, shouldn’t advice on treating complex skin conditions like #acne, #rosacea and #eczema be based on facts and science, and not what sounds like skincare theology? Isn’t @DrunkElephant putting its customers’ health at risk by offering unqualified skincare advice that is purely based on personal opinion and not backed by science (it’s also worth noting that they have changed their “beliefs” on ingredients like retinol over the years)? Comment below with your thoughts. 🤷🏻♂️ #drunkadvice #skincaretheology
Per #artnetnews, controversial British photographer, #Rankin, tasked 14 teenagers with editing portraits of themselves until they believed the images were 'social media ready,' highlighting their internal ideas of 'perfection.' This project was called, ‘Selfie Harm.’ The 5 videos are the results of his project. . Is this a good way to highlight the unattainable social media standards in beauty? #laundrites, chime in. #selfieharm #rankinphotography
#adaptogenicskincare are all the rage right now, but do they really work? 🍄 #adaptogens, like #ashwagandha, #Reishi and #Chaga, have been used in #chinesemedicine and #Ayurveda for centuries. They are meant to support your adrenal system and protect the body from external aggressors to bring it back to normalcy. Despite their internal benefits, there is very little research on the topical benefits of adaptogens. 🍄 #laundrites, have you seen any skincare benefits from using adaptogenic skincare?
Are beauty brands desperately trying to make #athleisure a trend in beauty? #maybelline has jumped on this bandwagon to create a “high endurance” makeup collection in collaboration with #Puma that supposedly allows women to dash from the gym to the street. Yea or nay, #Laundrites?💄 #alluremagazine
