A collection of some different sand patterns, taken on a remote beach in Canada. For me, finding these intriguing patterns was easily the most fascinating thing about exploring this area.

“Twin Flames” This was the first thing my eyes gravitated towards while recently exploring a pristine and remote beach in Canada. I could see what appeared to be interesting sand patterns as I approached and proceeded to stare at them for a long time. Upon first glance, I saw a grandfather tree with branches reaching out. Then, when viewing afterwards on my iMac it looked more like dual flames embracing, entwined in a harmony of sorts. Either way, it’s fascinating to me...how nature leaves such intriguing surprises if we only take the time to look. For some reason I sense life trying to reach to us from the deep water and we're not listening. #beauty_of_nature #earthmother #calledtobecreative #fantastic_earth #natureisperfect

The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a ‘green thing’ that stands in the way. Some say nature is all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself. ~ William Blake

Some say when you are born into a world you don’t fit into, it’s because you were born to help create a new one...to the best of your ability. Maybe in some cases it’s to help others see things in a way that they originally might not fully understand. Maybe it’s to help them value and treasure the things so frequently seen as trivial. And as time goes on, everything begins to make more sense. You start to have a greater sense of self and identity when you realize what your purpose and path is...even if it is not understood or accepted by many.
The past few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind. Currently sitting on a ferry heading to an area that I’ve been wanting to see for years...disconnecting from ‘civilization’ for a bit. For now, here’s a quick image of one of my favorite pristine forested areas in Oregon. 🌿🍀🌲

“Tree Stars”- Lately I’ve made it a point to start sharing anything that I’m feeling in the moment. Up until fairly recently with photography, I had felt more restrained with putting stuff out there...whether it be due to self-criticism and doubt, the notion of treating photography as a competition, or being sucked into the politics of social media, specifically a platform which rewards and places greater value on uniformity rather than diversity and uniqueness, etc.
How curious that a platform where most people are sharing their art and photography decides to reward those for making their page look more uniform and the same? There are websites dedicated to teaching you the skills of being an Instagram expert, telling people to use the same 1-2 presets on photos, the right tags to use, best captions, encouraging the same subject matter to get noticed more and get more likes. But when you start to realize how easy it is to get caught up in it and temporarily fuel the ego, how it can also start to strip away at you, literally taking away from your own creativity and who you are as an artist....Then you can also begin to understand and realize that what’s really more important is what you yourself want to express. Your voice, versus what is pleasing to anyone else. I hope to express my own connection with nature and elicit an emotional response...not cater to what a company, hub or the public wants me to put out there, but that’s who I am. For some it might be okay or it’s all they know at this point, but for others it can mess with your head and lead to an unhappy path where rather than expressing from the heart and soul, you are instead constantly wanting to please or compare yourself to others. The thing that people often forget is....self-expression despite whether or not it appeals to the masses is totally okay. In fact, it’s much more than okay. It’s what art is really all about. Be okay and confident with being you, and putting yourself out there....whoever that is.
Anyhow, I’m making it a point to do more of that. Just some thoughts today...and I don’t expect everyone will agree with them. I’ll get off my soapbox now. Happy weekend, everyone. 🍃🌳

Sometimes you can witness a scene that seems so painterly and perfect on its own, you feel by doing any post-processing/ editing to it you might actually be taking away from its raw beauty. This was one of those scenarios for me. So, very minimal was done to this image because I felt that it spoke for itself. Taken a couple of years ago with my group in the Eastern Cascade Foothills...a scene away from the more popular iconic spots near Leavenworth and a nice treat for everyone to experience that morning. Looking forward to heading out there with a small workshop group again this Autumn. 🍂🍁

“Dappled” Not sure what these flowers are, but I thought they were lovely with the combination of light and shade🌸 This was taken early one morning after a fresh rainfall near a restaurant parking lot in the middle of nowhere.💧
If you‘re fond of unique & organic jewelry/art with a nature theme like myself, then I encourage you to check out the work of incredibly talented local PNW artist @erintolie. She just released a bunch of new items...from earrings and rings, to framed flora & decor. Having already previously purchased a few of her jewelry items, I can state with confidence that the quality of her work is superb and it’s evident that she pours her heart and soul into her art. Be sure to check it out here if you get the chance: pnwnaturestudio.com 🌿🌼 #naturefirst #electric_macro #wildflowers #magicpict

Out of the places I’ve traveled to so far, the Pacific Coast is the area that I feel the most thankful to have experienced on earth. Not necessarily just with regards to majesty and beauty, but because of how it makes me feel when I’m there. No other place seems to bring such needed peace when my mind is racing, or I’m feeling completely out of sorts…than near ocean waters at twilight. And no other area feels so alive to me as well...waves crashing and tide beckoning me near. There’s a primordial, raw, wild and untamed sort of beauty there that stirs emotions. It mesmerizes, fascinates and makes one realize how powerless and small they are when compared to nature.🌊 Looking forward to spending some much needed time here again soon.
And on that note: Happy Earth Day...today and every day. The health and future of planet earth is not separate from our own. 🌎 #naturefirst #oregoncoast #EarthDay

If you ever want to see me get all giddy in the month of April or have sales people look at me like I’m strange...just watch me roam around at the garden center near my home for an hour. 🌺🌿🌸🌼

“Scales” - Sunlight hits the cool ocean water flowing around interesting patterns in the sand. So often I find the details of abstract scenes like this draw me in, versus the grand landscapes...especially around the coast. I immediately thought of fish scales upon seeing this. My daughter sees lava. What do you see? 🐟💦

I love flowers in general, but if I had to pick a favorite...orchids hold a special place in my heart. Why? I’ve been asked this question before, but always feel like I don’t give an appropriate answer. I‘ll try to scratch the surface...
They’re exotic and graceful, known widely to represent love, beauty and strength. Delicate...yet resilient, intriguing, elegant and almost unreal in appearance. Unique and have a mystique that sets them apart from other flowers. And just when you think you might have them all figured out, you find another side to them or another kind that looks nothing like the rest. Every orchid species has a unique look. There is such a wide variety and still so many different kinds yet to be discovered on this earth. In China, orchids are believed to symbolize thoughtfulness, innocence of children, and refinement. Purple orchids symbolize respect and admiration, and are often referred to as the true queen of the flower kingdom due to their royal color.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit this place twice now during an event called Orchid Mania, and could literally spend days at a time admiring their alluring beauty. It’s difficult to pick a favorite, but I think the first one stands out to me the most. 💜
Which ones pictured here appeal to you the most?
