A view so commonly seen of a beautiful well-known mountain with lupine and paintbrush, and some nice light. However iconic or popular it may be as a location though, seeing this makes me smile and think of my parents. I was recently lucky enough to share Paradise with them on my birthday last week, an experience that I’ll always remember and think of fondly. While we didn’t get to see Tahoma in all of her glory that day, we were treated to a lucky encounter with a bear and some marmots. As kind of a joke, my mother had said earlier that morning that she really had hoped to see a bear and marmot there someday. She got her wish a few hours later and witnessed both at the same time. 💜

My girl Belle spotted this little fellow hanging out at the local botanical garden recently. We all had to do a double take...it was one of those sorta things that almost looked fake, but then it shifted around a bit and reassured us that it was indeed real.

Shortly after taking this image, a seal popped its head up out of the water just a few feet away and stared at me for a while before diving below again. 💦As August approaches, I’m looking forward to taking some much needed time off of work and exploring with family. Excited to show my parents the gorgeous wilderness of BC.💙

A small collection of some recent photos of hydrangeas. While it’s probably one of most difficult flowers for me to try and photograph and do them any sort of justice, I absolutely adore hydrangeas. The deep blue-purple tones and details of the ones pictured here were so striking to me. I’m lucky enough to have them blooming in my yard every Summer and they’re also at the nearby botanical garden, so I always stop for a while to admire their beauty. 💙💜Finding a sleeping bumblebee in a petal of one recently one evening was a nice treat to witness. 🐝 #botanicalgardens #favv_flowers #gardentherapy #raw_flowers #flowermagic #Summer #nature_up_close #moody_nature #naturelovers #hydrangea #bloom

What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
An image taken during late winter in the Eastern Sierras. Something about the darker cold, snowy atmosphere and morning steam rising from Hot Creek has a way of fascinating me. 🏔🌫

Do you ever wonder why you are the way that you are? Your genetic makeup and life experiences shape a big part of it, of course. For the longest time I had thought that astrology was a bunch of crap. Then a friend (who’s also an astrologer) told me that it’s actually little to do with your zodiac sun sign and more about your entire birth chart and how everything aligned at the moment you were born. Before I could roll my eyes, she asked me some questions and then proceeded to tell me about the different positions of planets/ aspects when I was born and what it all means. You can think of the planets as symbolizing core parts of the human personality, and the signs as different colors of consciousness through which they filter. I’m pretty complex, but much of what she stated resonated with me. Turns out that you can be influenced more by other signs if they’re dominant in other areas of your chart, especially if they are ruled by that/those particular planet(s). Such is my case, as I identify more with the watery, earthy darker realms which compose the majority of mine. 🦂🦀 A couple of times now I’ve also had my palms read. The 1st time was over a decade ago at a farmers market on Lopez Island. The lady took my hands and then after a while, lightly slapped them, pointed at me sternly and said “Stop worrying so much! It can cost you much in life.” She startled me, but did manage to nail that part, and oddly knew that the guy I was with at the time wasn’t going to be right for me (he wasn’t nearby, thankfully). I didn’t think much of it until the recent reading at a local market. “You have the Water Hands”, was said both times. So, I recently started reading about the types of hands. And while it’s true this might all be just a bunch of ‘hippie stuff’, there’s a part of me that likes to think there’s something to it. Maybe it’s because I like to think that there’s something far greater than us in the universe, or because I’ve always felt a bit different, I’m not sure. But finding out more about what makes you tick and getting into those nooks & crannies..it’s a bit comforting in a strange sort of way.💧🤚#ocean #pnw #wildvisuals #waterhands #selfportrait

I'm a sucker for succulents. Such variety...so intriguing, and generally colorful. Out of the dozens of succulents that I recently admired at the garden center, this ‘Rose Queen’ stood out to me and I decided to bring her home.🌺🧡

It was wonderful to see so many healthy bumblebees at the local botanical garden this weekend. 🐝They seemed to be thriving and in far greater numbers than other recent years. Here’s my lame attempt at capturing a couple of them flocking to some Sea Holly (also known as Eryngium Big Blue). It’s one of my favorite flowering plants due to its unique and striking iridescent blue-grey colored flowers and stems with spiny decorative bracts and spiky texture.💙💜 #flowermagic #gardentherapy #thistle #botanicalgardens #seaholly

An image taken recently from one of my favorite waterfall areas in the PNW (uploading again since IG is being wonky). Thankful to have shared this lush, pristine area with a small workshop group over the past weekend when the nearby mountain remained elusive. They all seemed to feel a deep connection there and spent a solid few hours just taking in everything around us, capturing the beauty. 🌲💧
Sometimes when we’re lost in the concrete and steel of the cities that we call home, we lose sight of the absolute beauty and perfection of the natural world. The blood running through our veins serves the same purpose as the green “blood” that runs through the plants and the trees. We step out into the light and take in energy from the sun. The same sun that shines down and nourishes all living things, like the birds flying overhead and the small creatures at our feet. When we stop to realise our connection to the natural world, to the many living, breathing specimens of our planet like the tiny crustacean on the beach or the giant ancient redwood that has aged gracefully in the forest, we begin to feel a sense of purpose...and loved.
Allowing yourself to come back to nature, to the pure state of your being before there were lines at grocery stores to stand in or traffic to wait in on the highway...is to feel the calming energy of all that ever was. Nature moves at her own pace, without regard to big meetings that are on schedule or money that needs to be made. When life is off course, or pressures seem too difficult to handle...find a forest or garden to sit in, watch the bees, hummingbirds and butterflies fly from flower to flower, and listen to the birds singing. Walk to the water, feel the pebbles and sand in between your toes. Scoop the water up in your hands and feel how easily and gently it slips away, washing with it any cares or worries. Listen to the crashing of the ocean waves or the downpour of the rain, smell the wonderful petrichor and allow the peace of other life to resonate with you.
Understand that although you live your life at an arms length from nature, you can always come back to her. Always. 🌿🦌🐾💚 #pnw #water_captures #forestlife

Looking forward to some mountain & wildflower action this week both leading a small group workshop and doing some exploring of my own beforehand. 🏔🌹Thankful to finally see a bit of rain in the forecast overnight tonight, and hoping to see a lot more before the really hot and dry weather hits. We need as much as we can get to try and help prevent another terribly smoky Summer like we had here in the PNW last year. 🌦🤞 #naturesbeauty #Montana #earthmagic #wildflowers

A collection of some different sand patterns, taken on a remote beach in Canada. For me, finding these intriguing patterns was easily the most fascinating thing about exploring this area.
