So Iceland has a few waterfalls. Maybe a little more than a few! Here a three of my favorites that will surely be stops on the workshop that I’m leading with @whereisweatherby at the end of Sept. If Iceland has been on your list, the fall is a great time to go. On our 9 day trip through the island all lodging and transportation is included, all you need is a plane ticket! We will be chasing the aurora at night and dramatic landscapes such as these during the day. If you couldn’t tell from all the images I’ve been sharing this week, Iceland is truly a special place to myself and John and we hope that some of you will join us on this photography adventure of a lifetime. All the info can be found in my bio. Cheers! #photographyworkshop #icelandscape #waterfallfunday
My own personal little Iceland week continues here with an image I made at the Iceberg lagoon in Jökulsárlón. Now THIS is what we will be chasing this fall in Iceland! Not guaranteeing an appearance by Batman though. Who wants to come with us? Info in my bio. #aurora #icelandtravel #nightshooterz
“The Highlands from Above” Continuing with some of my favorite shots from Iceland this week is one that I was able to capture from a small plane above the braided glacial rivers and mountains in the highlands. I took a flight with @flightseeing and it was worth every penny! I was a bit nervous getting in that 4 seater plane but once we were up in the air it was like a riding a big smooth kite. Being able to get up to that vantage point opens up a whole new world of photographic possibilities. And while I’ve got a drone, it’s not nearly the same thing as being in the air yourself. I’ve got a huge print of this one that looks awesome, just waiting to get it framed. Still a few spots for my photography workshop in Sept with @whereisweatherby, might squeeze in one of these flights as an additional option (yes, I’ll be pimping our workshop all week😉) Hope you all like this one. Enjoy! #icelandtravel #mystopover #aerialphotography
I found this scene in the highlands of Iceland driving around one evening. The shoreline squiggles made me turn the car around immediately to pull over and check it out. I had it all to myself for about 20 minutes, then a car pulled over, then another and another. But by then they’d all missed the show. Still the serene beauty and perfect reflections were a sight to behold. You never know what you’re gonna find on this beautiful island. Who wants to join us this fall and explore Iceland? Workshop info is in my bio!
It’s no wonder they call this place the diamond beach. Massive chunks of ice break off from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier and float around in the lagoon melting away until they are eventually washed out to see and back up onto this beautiful black sand beach. All polished up from their swim, these chunks of ice make wonderful foregrounds and it’s so fun trying to capture the surf as it dances around them. This is another of my favorite locations in Iceland to photograph and will surely be a stop on my workshop with @whereisweatherby this fall. #mystopover #icelandtravel
Alright kiddos, hope you all have gotten the fireworks and burgers and beer out of your system from celebrating the 4th of July (if that’s what you did). Cause for the next week I’m going to share my favorite photos from Iceland! This shot was taken on a trip a few years back. It was the first night we were there and the last time we’d see the sun for a week. But there were still soooo many opportunities for dramatic scenery to be photographed! If you’d like to join myself and @whereisweatherby this fall in Iceland as we chase the aurora and everything else this beautiful place has to offer, then check out the link in my bio for more info. Have a great weekend everyone! #icelandtravel #photoeducation #photographyworkshop #iceland🇮🇸
One more from the redwoods! This might be my last one for awhile. I’ve still got a few shots in the hopper from this trip but it’s time to get out and shoot some wildflowers in the PNW. Hope you all like this one! #californiaredwoods🌲
Iceland. The land of fire and ice. And waterfalls. And caves. And beaches. And northern lights. And did I say waterfalls? I’ll be returning to the island this fall to lead a photography workshop with @whereisweatherby. We’ve got your lodging and transportation all covered while we chase the light on this amazing trip. If you’re interested in joining us at the end of September then check out the link in my bio for more information! #icelandadventure #photographyworkshop #photoeducation #landscapephotography #icelandtravel
Glacier National Park is one of the most magnificent places in the country and I am quite excited to be leading a couple workshops there this year. In the summertime the wildflowers come alive and the wildlife is out and about. In the fall, the color palette changes to rich autumn yellows, orange and red. Either is a wonderful time to be in Montana! I’m down to a couple spots for both my end of July and mid-Sept photography workshops. If you’d like to join me this year, please check the link in my bio for more details. Enjoy! #montanamoment #montanacolors #glaciernationalpark #themountainsarecalling
“Sapling” Redwoods National Park. It isn’t always the tallest tree that stands out the most. 🌲
“Curtain Call” On my last night in Iceland this past fall I spent the night at this little known waterfall on the southern coast. When I arrived at Skogafoss the northern lights were faintly stretched across the sky. I was excited as I started setting up my camera and began working some compositions. When all of a sudden BOOM!!!! This light show arose right above the falls! Like someone had turned on a light switch or raised a curtain of lights. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen in my life. Off to the right of this scene there clear colors of green and magenta were dancing in the sky that could be seen with the naked eye. This display held in place for what seemed like forever (it was actually 15-20 minutes) as people were hooting and hollering. It was quite a sight to behold. If you’d like to join myself and @whereisweatherby at the end of September as we chase the Aurora in Iceland then please check out the link in my bio for more info on our photography workshop.
Self Portrait. Oregon Coast. On the first night of my Oregon Coast photography workshop last week we were walking on the beach with the main subject being the sea stacks we wanted to shoot at sunset. Being the first night everyone was eager for the main attraction. As I slowly strolled the beach with one of my students next to me, I noticed that the tiny bubbles of sea foam were catching a rainbow of colors and I broke out my macro lens for a closer look. This is what I was able to capture and perfectly illustrated to my students to look down and slow down while out in the field. You never know what you’ll find if you look down and take your eyes away from the obvious shot. Zoom in on this one, there’s soooo many little bubbles with my shadow in every one. #oregoncoast #smallscenes #macrophotography
“Mystical” Seeing the rhododendrons in full bloom with the mist and fog enveloping this grove of redwoods was exactly what I was hoping for while making the long drive down to Northern California last week. It took a few tries to find the good stuff but once I did I just couldn’t get enough! On this particular morning the fog lingered in the forest for three full hours with light beams eventually coming through. The peace and calm among these trees was just the stress relief I needed. Enjoy. #redwoodsnationalpark #tree brilliance #californiaredwoods🌲
